Museum Monday - Craft Contemporary

I snuck out for a solo art date at Craft Contemporary in the Mid-Wilshire area in early December 2025 to view the exhibit “Material Curiosity by Design: Evelyn & Jerome Ackerman” which I highly recommend. The exhibit runs through May 20, 2026.

I had purchased the book “Evelyn & Jerome Ackerman Mid-Century California Designers” by Laura Ackerman-Shaw, daughter of Evelyn and Jerome at a Docomomo SoCal event in September 2025. Laura Ackerman gave a talk of her parents’ work and what it was like to grow up in the midst of their creative collaboration.

You could say that I was primed for the exhibit having attended the talk and reading the book ahead of time :-)

I was impressed by the breadth of the Ackerman’s work on display from textiles to mosaics, metalwork to wood panel carves, and ceramics. The vibrancy of the textiles was particularly striking considering a lot of the work was produced more than 70 years ago.

I look forward to a return visit in spring and highly recommend the exhibit to those looking for a little inspiration.
