Breeze Block Walk - Pasadena Playhouse District

Whenever I am out and about, I keep my eyes peeled for use of breeze blocks in the architecture. Here is a sampling in Playhouse Village, (formerly known as Playhouse District) a neighborhood in Pasadena.

Playhouse Village is bordered by Interstate 210 to the north, California Boulevard to the south, Los Robles Avenue to the west, and Hudson Avenue to the east; it has a panhandle-like extension to Wilson Avenue.

Shown in blue above, a modern space-age block design, the best feature of a rather humble apartment unit on Los Robles Ave.

Below, an apartment wall treatment on Hudson Ave. The effect is different depending on your POV, whether a side glance as you pass by or if you view head on.

The breeze block below is located at 1270 Cordova St., the front of an apartment built in 1963. The apartment also has some nice accompanying metalwork.

Below on Hudson Ave. located on the grounds of the school district administrative office, you can find a facility building adorned in a unique breeze block style.

The panels below stand out for it’s boldly painted breeze blocks.

I prefer the more low key unpainted look of the blocks below.

Finally several photo taken of the breeze block adornment of the building on the corner of Oak Knoll and Green. The building has a nice contrast of materials and textures.
