In Bloom - Matilija Poppies

Spring is in the air and one of my favorites is blooming - the Matilija poppy, also referred to as the “fried egg” poppy. This native plant to California and Baja always catches my eye and makes me smile. Today, it was in bloom in the meadow area at nearby Arlington Garden in Pasadena.

Above are images of Matilija poppies taken in Balboa Park (San Diego) near 6th Avenue where I first happened upon the plant several years ago. For my San Diego friends who can stop by Balboa Park, let me know if you can find the patch of Matilijas.
