Travel - Hallgrimskirkja Church (Reykjavik, Iceland)
I was recently reminded of Hallgrimskirkja Church which we visited last summer while in Iceland. As you can see in the gallery above, the church is stunning and literally takes your breath away, particularly if you walk uphill and arrive on foot.
Hallgrimskirkja is the largest church in the Iceland and was designed by renowned architect Guỗjón Samuelsson.
Named after the 17th-century poet Hallgrimur Pétursson, its design is inspired by Icelandic nature, including glaciers, mountains and lava formations.
Construction took 41 years to complete and was finished in 1986. The pipe organ consisting of over 5,000 pipes.
The entry doors are nicely detailed and there is an inscription above.
We waited briefly in line to take the elevator to the top of the tower. Below, some images taken in the clock tower.
And the panoramic city view as seen from the clock tower.
