A Weekend Getaway to San Francisco - Day 1

What was originally envisioned as a quick day trip to the Bay Area Saturday for the MA+DS Silicon Valley Modern Home Tour turned into a weekend getaway...

Why not fly up Friday to take in SFMOMA? A special Rene Magritte exhibit? Sure. Perhaps a stop at an architecture firm. The trip takes on a life of it's own.

Day 1 starts with a flight out of San Diego. Lots of new public art to view at both SAN and SFO. Fifteen exhibitors are featured in Figure of Speech at SAN.

Would you believe there's an exhibit of Maneki Neko, Japan's Beckoning Cat, on loan from the Mingei International Museum at SFO?

After catching BART to the city, there is time for a quick lunch, then off to visit the architecture firm Skidmore Owings and Merrill.

From there a short walk to SFMOMA to take in the special exhibit Rene Magritte: The Fifth Season.

Ample interactive opportunities ala Magritte...

Whenever I visit San Francisco, SFMOMA is a must. So much modern art on display, continually rotated, so you can visit year after year and always see something new.

Art viewing can leave you tired and in need of a break. That's the time to head to the museum cafe for dessert.

Later time when it's time for dinner, restaurant karma allows the good fortune of finding the perfect spot, Liholiho, a couple blocks from the hotel.

A perfect start to the weekend!
