International Museum Day 2020

In honor of today being International Musuem Day 2020, I thought I’d share images from a few of my favorite museums, some which may be new to you! Two are located in travel cities for me (Denver and Toronto) and the other is close to home (Pasadena). Though we can’t visit as we did before Covid-19, let’s tour virtually.

Clyfford Still Museum, located in Denver, Colorado

The museum was designed by Brad Cloepfil of Allied Works Architecture specifically to display Clyfford Still’s work. I can’t image a better time than an afternoon spent at the Clyfford Still Musuem appreciating the work of my favorite abstract expressionist artist. I happened upon the museum totally by chance the first time I visited Denver in 2015. On subsequent visits, it was my destination immediately after I checked into my downtown hotel.

Art Gallery Ontario (AGO), located in Toronto, Ontario

I’ve visited twice in the past two years, each time on my travels to Canada to run the Toronto Marathon. Each visit, I stop by AGO for lunch then a wallk through the galleries. I appreciate Frank Gehry’s renovation of AGO and a chance to view artwork by Canadian artists.

Norton Simon Museum, located in Pasadena, CA

This is my hometown museum, conveniently located a few blocks away. I often pass by Rodin’s Thinker on a morning walk. I particularly enjoy walking through the Monet-like sculpture garden.

A print of Picasso’s ‘Woman with a Book’, which is in the museum’s collection, hangs in my apartment.

There are more favorite museums to share - the story for another post :)
