What I’m Reading Now - “Make It Stick”
I found this book in a Little Free Library in Highland Park while on a walk with @teachphoto
It was our first meetup which came about because we share common interests in mid-century architecture appreciation, books, photography and more.
The book offers interesting insights and practical advice on how we learn and retrieve information. I wish I knew some of this when I was a much younger student!
The following is encouraged:
Pre-reading and study before showing up for class
Allowing time to forget some of the material between study
Testing often (yes, testing serves a purpose!)
Focusing on the areas that are difficult
Often what passes for study such as re-reading highlighted passages gives you a false sense of preparation.
As an architecture docent, I’ve modified my practice tour process for the better :-)
I have since passed the book on to a friend who thought her daughter might find some pearls of wisdom on making things stick. I’ll follow up to see what her daughter thinks.
