Architecture Model Sightings

Do you like to view buildings and the architecture models that represent those very buildings? On my latest travel to San Francisco and Honolulu, I happened upon an exhibit of Foster + Partners project models at the Transamerica Pyramid and a master plan model at the former IBM building.

Both model visits were unplanned though very much enjoyed!

Transamerica Annex
San Francisco, USA

I was fortunate to view this exhibit in February as I headed towards the Embarcadero to catch BART to Berkeley where I happened to be staying. I couldn’t help but notice the Transamerica Pyramid along the way and made a slight detour to stop in the lobby and the annex where the models were displayed.

One of the models was of The Gherkin which I look forward to seeing in person later this summer when J and I are in London.

IBM Building, 1240 Ala Moana Blvd., Honolulu

Designed by Vladimir Ossipoff, this building opened in 1962 as the Honolulu headquarters for American technology company IBM. It is presently owned by the Howard Hughes Corporation, serving as a sales center for its surrounding Ward Village development.
