Breeze Block Walks - Honolulu
The last trip to Hawaii was relatively short so I had just one architecture/art outing on the wishlist which was to view the breeze block exhibit at the Honolulu Museum of Art. Alas, that outing did not come to be and I contented myself mainly with short walks in dad’s neighborhood.
You could say that I curated my own breeze block exhibit 😉.
Breeze blocks in Hawaii are typically used on carport walls for ventilation and light.
They are also used in privacy walls and for decorative accent.
Sometimes only a few are used.
The block style, above and below, is one that is commonly used.
The block style below is less commonly found.
The start of a breeze block wall can be seen below. Notice that the carport uses brick openings for ventilation and light instead of breeze blocks.
I took a short walk in Manoa after a visit with my Aunt. I photographed these carports because of the unique block styles used.
