Hawaii Architecture - Manoa Residential
This blog post was started several years ago but I am only sharing now. I promise to procrastinate less!
Melemele Place is architecture rich with homes by Alfred Preis. I was fortunate to explore this area of Manoa in December of 2023.
It was a serendipitous find on the last morning of my visit - the rewards of choosing a hill run on the east corner of the valley.
Preis was an Austrian-born American architect best known for designing the USS Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor.
Other projects include ILWU halls on the islands of O’ahu, Kauai and Hawai‘i, churches, such as the First United Methodist Church on Beretania St. in Honolulu, and residences.
All homes posted in the gallery above are by Preis. The Bushnell House is designated a historic site.
Melemele Place is steep and offers scenic views as shown below. I would like to revisit and take it all in again.
