Campus Architecture - Caltech at Night
It’s nice to see someplace you’ve been many times in a new light, in this case a little less light. Here are a sampling of the buildings at Caltech photographed at night when I took a circuitous route to attend a night event on campus.
Arthur Amos Noyes Laboratory of Chemical Physics Architect: Risley, Gould & Van Heuklyn, 1967
I had admired the Laboratory of Chemical Physics before in the daytime but it really shines when lit at night.
Two views across the gene pool
The photo below is looking east over the gene pool toward Beckman institute, which is the largest building on campus. It was completed in 1988 and designed by architect A.C. Martin Jr.
The photo below looks east over the gene pool towards Beckman Auditorium. The circular auditorium, designed by noted architect Edward Durrell Stone, has a distinct roofline.
A stroll along Beckman Mall
From Beckman Auditorium, I headed south along Beckman Mall and looked east towards Baxter Hall of the Humanities. Mature multi-trunked olive trees landscape the west side of the building.
When I reached the walkway along San Pasqual, I turned around to look north at Beckman Auditorium, flanked by the two brutalist Robert Alexander buildings - Beckman Hall to the left and Baxter Hall to the right.
Most striking to me about the photo above is the color of the sky at twilight.
