Field Trip - Culver City, Ivy Station

This post is about last week’s fun, mid-week outing to take a Y6 yoga class in Culver City located on the Ivy Station campus, a place that was new-to-me.

The above photo was taken before the Power Express yoga class with my friend and teacher Kyle. Kyle inspired me to drive about 45 minutes each way to embark on the field trip.

I was quite captivated by the tilework covering the elevator shaft to the underground parking garage at Ivy Station.

There are three designs of tiles (in colors of blues, red, purple, black and cream) that entirely cover the free-standing elevator shaft, and they all relate to Culver City.

One features a stylized version of the City flower, lantana; another has an abstraction of two letter “C”s; and a third has raindrops and an umbrella shape referencing the MGM classic “Singin’ in the Rain” filmed nearby.

I spotted this modern commercial space just around the corner from Ivy Station.

The building below with the colorful mural is also by Abramson Architects and part of a cluster of mixed-use spaces called Platform. I need to explore the shops and restaurants on a future visit.

Finally I stepped into The Shay Hotel at Ivy Station which had some cool common areas. And from a bit of research online, I learned there’s a José Andrés restaurant there called Zaytinya that bears checking out.
