Relaxation Day 2026

I recently learned about Relaxation Day and as fate would have it, I was able to celebrate by taking a Restore class at the studio that incorporated a yoga nidra section at the end.

We celebrate National Relaxation Day annually on August 15 in the United States.

A search online yielded this bit of history: Nine-year-old Sean Moeller is the one who created this holiday. In 1985, he pitched the idea for a national day of relaxation! This unofficial celebration of all things relaxation is a reminder to take a pause and just be.

Also found online, this definition of yoga nidra:

Yoga nidra, also known as "yogic sleep," guides you into a state of deep relaxation that hovers between wakefulness and sleep. This practice, rooted in ancient yogic traditions, promotes profound rest and healing without requiring complex poses. By lying comfortably and following a guided meditation, you can reset your nervous system, relieve stress, and enhance overall well-being.

You don’t have to wait till August 15 to incorporate some relaxation into your day. In fact, it’s probably a great idea to take a pause everyday! It can be a simple as putting your legs up the wall to get a little blood flow back to your heart 💛
