More Random Thoughts on Running

The other day someone asked if I had ever run a marathon and I answered that I had run 17, although it’s been awhile. That got me to thinking if I had really run that many as in my head I couldn’t name them all.

Today, while wearing my favorite Chicago Marathon race shirt someone asked me if I ran it. I replied “Yes, in 2017” after looking down my shirt for the year.

So, I thought it time for another post with random thoughts on running.

After some reminiscing, the number 17 is accurate with the races listed here and links if there was a blog post: Vancouver, Toronto 2, Toronto 1, Big Sur, Chicago, Washington DC, New York, Portland, Carlsbad (3x), Mountains-to-Beach (3x), San Diego Rock and Rock (RnR) (2x), Sacramento (2x).

In my heyday of running the annual schedule was 2 marathons, 1 half and 1 5k. Having a spring and a fall marathon meant that if something came up to prevent participation in a marathon, that I had another one on the docket as a spare. Not everything was tied to the single marathon.

Nowadays, I’m thinking the annual schedule is conducive to 1 or 2 half marathons and 1 spring marathon based on when I am on travel and how hot it is outdoors when you’re a month out from race day.

I would like to repeat in Sacramento, Big Sur, Toronto and Vancouver. Perhaps try the marathon in Wine Country and add a couple new to me halfs such as the ones in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara.

All this running gets me out there, hopefully inspiring others to do the same.
